About The Position

Apple Valley Waste is a rapidly expanding waste and recycling company in the Mid-Atlantic region, seeking to build a high-performance team to support its growth across residential, commercial, and roll-off services. Requirements

  • Valid Class B or higher commercial driver's license with air brakes endorsement.
  • Current DOT Medical card.
  • Meet the requirements of 49 CFR 383.51 and any other applicable local, state, or federal requirements.
  • Must have a "Can Do" attitude.
  • Ability to read, write and effectively communicate.
  • Flexibility with running different routes and start times.
  • Computer Skills -- Must be able to perform required weekly job duties on computer (Average 30% of job).
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 1 year of prior experience driving commercial CDL vehicles.
  • Minimum of 1 year in a lead Driver/supervisory role within the waste industry.
  • Experience in a customer-facing position.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in the waste services industry.
  • Able to lift objects to shoulder height weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to operate lever hand controls for hydraulic machinery.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a group of drivers daily to ensure routes are serviced safely and efficiently.
  • Report downtime and other concerns to appropriate management.
  • Assist in planning and executing re-routes to maximize efficiency.
  • Assist in the training of new drivers.
  • Perform opening and/or closing duties related to Crew-ins and Crew-outs following company guidelines.
  • Promote the district/company safety culture and ensure employee adherence to all safety policies.
  • Potentially drive a route (residential, commercial, roll-off) and/or throw trash as needed.
  • Learn dispatch duties and provide coverage when required.
  • Learn how to use the Towers application/system.
  • Perform complete pre and post trip/operations inspections of the vehicle daily.
  • Safely operate heavy diesel/alternative fuel trucks along designated routes and to disposal sites.
  • Read route sheets, follow maps, utilize company tablets, and service customers as identified.
  • Operate manual and/or automatic controls and packing/discharge cylinder mechanisms according to safety policies to lift and load refuse, operate the compactor, and dispose of collected material.
  • Interact courteously with team members, customers, dispatchers, and others to ensure timely and professional customer service.
  • Identify unsatisfactory waste containers/carts and tag them according to company procedures.
  • Clean up areas around accidental waste spills, adhering to safety standards.
  • Continuously monitor vehicle condition to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime.
  • Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body on each disposal trip.
  • Maintain adherence to required productivity standards.
  • Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in the Company's ongoing leadership program/opportunities.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
