About The Position

160 Driving Academy is hiring a CDL Class A Instructor Trainer to provide hands-on instruction at a designated training yard, working with other instructors and a Lead Instructor. The role teaches students from pre-trip inspections through CDL testing, in the yard and on the road, using automatic and manual transmissions. Instructors may occasionally cover other regional yards when needed and may be asked to stay overnight; per diem and mileage are paid for qualifying travel. Keeping the yard and building clean and presentable, including light upkeep, is part of the job. The schedule is generally Monday through Friday, either 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM or 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Some higher-volume yards operate seven days per week with ten-hour days and may offer alternative shifts, including some four-day work weeks. Reliable, on-time attendance is essential. A 90-day probationary period applies to ensure adherence to safety, compliance, and curriculum requirements. Pay is $26–$28 per hour, with an opportunity for annual merit increases based on business performance. A monthly shared bonus pool is available when a yard averages an 80% first-time pass rate: each first-time pass adds $100 to the pool, split across the team and paid monthly. Full bonus eligibility requires an average student rating of 4.7 out of 5. Other opportunities include a $100 accident-free bonus for the top 15 yards and additional paid hours for placement fairs and truck care during scheduled downtime. Benefits include shared-expense medical and dental coverage, paid vacation that increases with tenure, paid time off for qualifying perfect attendance and a birthday after one year of service, relocation assistance for moving more than 100 miles to a company location, and a referral bonus for instructor hires. Branded gear and access to yard laptops are provided. The stated career path is Yard Instructor, Assistant Lead Instructor, Lead Instructor, and Regional Manager.
