About The Position

160 Driving Academy is hiring a full-time CDL Class A Instructor Trainer to teach students the practical skills needed to pass their CDL exam. The role is based at a designated training yard and involves hands-on instruction in outdoor yards and on the road, using automatic and manual transmissions. Instructors work alongside other instructors and a Lead Instructor and may occasionally cover nearby regional yards when needed. The role also includes light upkeep to keep the yard and building clean and presentable, such as litter pickup, basic painting, and general tidiness, as well as assisting with truck transfers to repair operations and neighboring yards. The position is intended for experienced Class A drivers who want local work and to be home every night. Most yards operate Monday through Friday, either 7:00 AM–3:30 PM or 8:00 AM–4:30 PM. Higher-volume yards may operate seven days a week, ten hours per day, with alternative shifts that can include four-day work weeks. Regional coverage may occasionally involve an overnight hotel stay; per diem and mileage are paid in the circumstances described in the posting. Reliable, on-time attendance is essential. A 90-day probationary period applies to ensure adherence to safety, compliance, and curriculum requirements. Compensation is $28–$30 per hour, with the opportunity for annual merit increases based on business performance. A monthly shared bonus pool is available when a yard averages an 80% first-time pass rate: each first-time pass adds $100 to the pool, which is split across the team and paid monthly. Full bonus eligibility requires an average student rating of 4.7 out of 5. Additional compensation includes a $100 accident-free bonus for employees at the top 15 yards and paid hours for placement fairs and truck care during scheduled downtime. Benefits include shared-expense medical and dental coverage, paid vacation that increases with service, an attendance-based paid day off, a birthday floating holiday after one year of service, relocation assistance for moves to locations more than 100 miles away, and a referral bonus for instructor hires. The company provides branded gear and access to yard laptops. The stated career path is Yard Instructor, Assistant Lead Instructor, Lead Instructor, and Regional Manager.
