CDL Class A Heavy Haul Driver
About The Position
R-2 Contractors is seeking a dependable, safety-focused CDL Class A Heavy Haul Driver to support construction operations throughout Arizona. The position is based in Gilbert, Arizona, and is primarily local, transporting heavy construction equipment and materials between job sites, equipment yards, and other designated locations. Drivers are home nightly after local assignments, but occasional overnight over-the-road (OTR) trips are required to support projects and transportation needs outside the local area. The driver operates Class A commercial vehicles and a variety of heavy-haul trailer configurations, loads and secures equipment, and ensures transportation complies with DOT regulations and company safety standards. The role also involves vehicle inspections, delivery and inspection documentation, coordination with dispatch and project teams, and assisting field crews with transportation-related activities as needed. The schedule is full-time, primarily Monday through Friday, with flexibility as project schedules and operational needs require.
Requirements
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- At least one year of verifiable heavy-haul experience transporting heavy construction equipment.
- Current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate.
- Knowledge of proper loading, weight distribution, cargo securement, and heavy equipment transportation procedures.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations and commercial vehicle safety requirements.
- Ability and willingness to perform occasional OTR assignments, including overnight travel when necessary.
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate effectively with project teams and fleet personnel.
- Ability to work independently, maintain schedules, and adapt to changing project demands.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.

- Experience operating lowboy and step-deck trailers.
- Experience with multi-axle trailer configurations.
- Experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, or similar material-handling equipment.
Responsibilities
- Safely transport heavy construction equipment and materials to and from project sites throughout Arizona.
- Perform occasional overnight OTR heavy-haul assignments as operational needs require.
- Operate Class A commercial vehicles, including lowboy trailers, step decks, flatbeds, dump trucks, and other heavy-haul configurations.
- Load, properly secure, transport, and unload heavy construction equipment in accordance with DOT regulations and company safety standards.
- Transport equipment using various trailer configurations, including multi-axle lowboys.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure equipment safety and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate with dispatch, fleet personnel, and project teams to ensure timely equipment deliveries and pickups.
- Assist field crews with equipment transportation and related activities as needed.
- Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, delivery documentation, and other required paperwork.
- Follow company safety policies, DOT regulations, and applicable transportation requirements.
