About The Position

The CDL Class A Driver (LTL) drives a tractor-trailer combination or straight truck to deliver and pick up palletized freight and/or large shipments. The role is based in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. The schedule is Monday through Friday, starting at 7:30 a.m. and continuing until the route is complete, with 10–15 hours of overtime expected each week. Overtime is paid at time and a half after 40 hours per week. Pay is $24.00–$30.75 per hour, based on experience; starting pay is determined by relevant experience, qualifications, skills, and internal equity. Spee Dee Delivery is a family-owned and operated company founded in 1978. Its core business is standard, next-day, ground delivery, and it employs more than 1,800 people company-wide. The position is full-time and nonexempt. A $10,000 sign-on bonus is offered for CDL Class A drivers.

Requirements

Be at least 21 years of age.
Hold a valid CDL Class A driver's license and have a good driving record that meets company standards.
Be able to operate a manual transmission.
Possess or be able to obtain a doubles/triples endorsement.
Have good customer service and organizational skills.
Be able to work independently and make quick decisions.
Be able to pass a DOT physical.
Be able to lift 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
Have full range of motion for grasping, standing, squatting, stair climbing, walking, and related activities without limitations.
Be able to work with freight that may include hazardous materials, perishable food and alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals.
Pass a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.

Responsibilities

Conduct a pre-trip inspection to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
Submit the pre-trip form and complete mileage and maintenance forms.
Deliver palletized freight to customers in a timely manner and pick up freight from shippers.
Verify load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy.
Collect shipment payments as necessary and return bills of lading to the office for billing.
Maintain all certifications required by DOT and company safety policies.
Wash the exterior of the tractor and equipment daily.
Assist other drivers with loading, deliveries, or pickups as needed.
