About The Position

The CDL Class A Driver (LTL) drives a tractor-trailer combination or straight truck to deliver and pick up palletized freight and/or large shipments. The role is with Spee Dee Delivery, a family-owned and operated company whose core business is standard, next-day, ground delivery. This is a full-time position with a Monday–Friday schedule, starting at 7:30 AM and continuing until route completion. The position typically includes 10–15 hours of overtime per week, paid at time and a half after 40 hours. The hourly pay range is $24.00–$30.75, based on experience and other stated compensation factors. A $10,000 sign-on bonus is offered to CDL Class A drivers. The position requires maintaining a valid CDL Class A license and applicable DOT and company safety requirements. The driver must be able to pass a DOT physical, pre-employment drug screening, and criminal background check, and handle freight that may include hazardous materials, perishable food and alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals.

Requirements

Be at least 21 years of age.
Hold a valid CDL Class A driver's license and have a good driving record that meets company standards.
Be able to operate a manual transmission.
Possess or have the ability to obtain a doubles/triples endorsement.
Have good customer service and organizational skills.
Be able to work independently and make quick decisions.
Be able to pass a DOT physical.
Be able to lift 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
Have full range of motion, including grasping, standing, squatting, stair climbing, and walking, without limits.
Be able to work with freight that may include hazardous materials, perishable food and alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals.
Pass a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.

Responsibilities

Conduct a pre-trip inspection to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are in good working order.
Submit the pre-trip form and complete mileage and maintenance forms.
Deliver palletized freight to customers in a timely manner and pick up freight from shippers.
Verify that all load-related documentation is complete and accurate.
Collect payment for shipments as necessary and return bills of lading to the office for billing.
Maintain all certifications required by DOT and company safety policies.
Wash the exterior of the tractor and equipment daily.
Assist other drivers with loading, deliveries, or pickups as needed.
