About The Position

Feeding South Florida’s Class A Driver will perform various duties relating to the pick-up/loading, transport, and delivery/unloading of product. These duties will include assignments within the warehouse. The Class A Driver will play a key role in vehicle maintenance and maintaining Quality Control standards of the product being transported. The Class A Driver must enjoy meeting, interacting with, and showing appreciation to customers – both internal and external. This position requires enthusiastic interaction with the public and co-workers.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid and clean CDL-A license.
  • Minimum of 1 year driving experience.
  • Ability to work all shifts, nights, or weekends.
  • Current registration in the FMCSA clearinghouse is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with a wide variety of people.
  • Ability to lift and carry weight in accordance with OSHA standards.
  • Basic Math Skills.
  • Basic Reading and Writing Skills in the English language.
  • Ability to successfully complete training related to the safe operation of truck equipment and DOT Safety inspections.
  • Ability to successfully complete training related to the safe handling of food products.
  • Ability to prepare written reports accurately.
  • Ability to successfully complete training related to the safe operation of warehouse equipment and machinery.
  • Capable of following directions.
  • Capable of working under pressure, completing various assignments responsibly and in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Pick up food and grocery items from retail stores, manufacturers, ports, farms, and other food industry partners.
  • Deliver food and grocery items to partner agencies, special event sites, distributions, and community partners.
  • Inspect, operate, and maintain equipment in a clean, professional, safe, and secure manner in accordance with company, USDOT, FLDMV, FMCSA, and OSHA standards. “Equipment” includes, but is not limited to, tractors, trailers, box trucks, and other material handling equipment.
  • Comply with all company safety policies and report on all conditions that require attention from Management.
  • Ensure, through continuous monitoring and reporting procedures, that all applicable regulatory standards are met.
  • Comply with all Feeding South Florida, Feeding America, and other applicable policies and procedures including safe food handling, salvage guidelines, inventory control, and distribution procedures.
  • Proactively communicate with appropriate stakeholders (i.e., dispatch, donors, partner agencies) associated with each daily task.
  • Always transport food items under sanitary conditions, complying with safe food handling regulations, and paying attention to the proper temperature.
  • Establish positive relationships with donors and partner agencies.
  • Assist with weighing, loading, and unloading of products.
  • Inspect products for expiration dates, any signs of contamination, or other signs of unsafe handling and storage.
  • Operate equipment under all legal driving rules and maintain safe driving.
  • Assist with warehouse functions and operation of equipment as necessary.
  • Assist the Leadership Team and Management as necessary.
