The CDL-A Regional Driver operates a dry van fleet throughout Michigan, Ohio, and surrounding states, typically driving 1,500 to 2,000 miles per week. Drivers are home every weekend. Work includes a mix of drop-and-hook, preloads, live loads, and live unloads, with routes varying from week to week and dispatch operating during both day and night. Winter driving is part of the role, and drivers receive preparation before driving solo. Each driver operates an assigned truck, averaging about 1.5 years old. Pay ranges from $0.56 to $0.65 per mile based on verifiable experience, with average weekly earnings of about $1,100 to $1,500. Solo drivers receive a $1,000 weekly minimum for their first three months. New CDL holders train with a mentor for three to five weeks, approximately 200 to 250 hours, and earn $900 per week. Drivers with at least six months of recent OTR experience start solo after orientation. There is also $15 per stop pay, and pay is issued weekly by direct deposit. The hiring process includes a recruiter review of the applicant’s license and record, followed by orientation lasting up to two days. The employer covers the hotel, reimburses the bus ticket, and pays $300 once the applicant is hired. Benefits begin after 30 days.
