About The Position

The CAVAC Liaison Officer is responsible for assisting the Cree CAVAC offices with education, awareness, programming, training, workshops, case management and frontline work on incidents related to sexual violence. The CAVAC Liaison Officer further creates networks with local, regional and provincial institutions related to sexual violence victims. The incumbent will also work with colleges and universities, and urban-based resources to provide services to Cree individuals in urban environments in Quebec.

Requirements

College diploma in Criminology, Psychology, Sociology or related field.
Three to five years of relevant work experience.
Fluency in verbal Cree.
Fluency in English.
Good knowledge and understanding of Cree culture, customs and history.
Customer-focused and service-oriented.
Good empathy and listening skills.
Proven ability to communicate effectively and excellent interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality.
Strong judgment and proven ability to problem-solve.
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to adapt to a changing environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
Willingness to travel frequently.
Must be able to pass provincial and federal security screening.

Fluency in French is an asset.

Responsibilities

Support victims locally in the respect of CAVAC’s mission.
Act as a specialized resource within their regional CAVAC offices regarding sexual violence.
Work as a CAVAC contact for universities or colleges with Cree populations on sexual violence cases.
Provide interactive presentations on healthy relationships/violence prevention to community organizations, including high schools.
Act as a representative and advocate the issues and concerns of members in the community surrounding the issues of conjugal violence and sexual assault.
Implement and evaluate programs and recommend program improvements when needed.
Work collaboratively with the Cree School Board and Cree Women of Eeyou Istchee on preparatory kits with information on sexual violence for women and youth planning to attend schools in urban centers in Quebec.
Develop support with local resources and Elders for specialized healing circles for victims of sexual violence.
Work with communities and youth on information concerning sexual violence and related cyber-bullying involving children and minors.
Provide support, information, advocacy, and referrals to individuals who have experienced sexual violence.
Provide court preparation and accompaniment to clients who are reporting to police and/or testifying in court.
Research Cree values, knowledge and ways to approach for working with victims of sexual violence.
Define the impact of sexualization of young people in the media and links with sexual violence.
Assist in the promotion of programs and services addressing sexual violence as required in Cree communities.
Establish and consolidate links with various regional organizations like the Cree Board of Health and Social Services that help victims of sexual violence (especially on concertation tables).
Educate and raise awareness to local governments on statistics, services and initiatives related to sexual violence in relation to their population.
Assist in the communication of programs or activities through social media, workshops, general assemblies or specialized campaigns to raise awareness on issues related to sexual violence and report to public on activities.
Develop a plan of action and communications plan for the reduction of sexual violence in the Cree nation.
Maintain and populate the database.
Complete reports of statistics on sexual violence from courts, police, social services and CAVAC as prescribed by the DOJCS.
Produce quarterly reports of activities.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills in area(s) of responsibility.
Perform other duties as required.
