About The Position

The Feedlot Manager is responsible for sourcing and marketing of cattle, daily care, health, and management of 2,500 head of feeder calves. This role requires a blend of hands-on agricultural labor, mechanical maintenance, personnel management, and strategic business planning with nutritionists, veterinarians, and cattlemen.

Requirements

  • Must be BQA (Beef Quality Assurance) certified and BQA Transportation certified.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record determined by Beck’s automobile insurance policy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and IOS Mobile Systems.
  • Basic mechanical skills.
  • Solid understanding of cattle handling, genetics, cattleman industry.
  • Experience in feedlot operations, cattle processing, and crew supervision is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a valid Class A CDL is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with cow/calf producers to build a pipeline of sources of cattle and to meet strategic objectives of the operation.
  • Build and maintain relationships with feedlot buyers and packer buyers to optimize demand for Beck’s cattle, leading to profitability of the operation.
  • Hire and manage staff to assist with daily chores and seasonal operations of the feedlot.
  • Collaborate with production team leaders to build program and routine for equipment maintenance, manure application, hauling of feed and livestock.
  • Collaborate with an animal nutritionist to optimize diet and a local veterinarian to establish and maintain health protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of animals and feed materials for monthly reporting regarding feedlot status.
  • Manage cattle environment to promote herd health, cattle growth, and marketing objectives. Specifically, bunks, waterers, gates, fences, bed pack, drovers alley, rendering, etc.
  • Train and coach a bench of other Beck’s employees to assist in the 24/7/365 demands of the operation. Making operations simple and scalable where practical.
  • Coordinate transportation of animals and feed materials, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Production Manager.
