About The Position

MercyOne Genesis is seeking a Registered Nurse to join their EP Cath Lab Team in Davenport, Iowa. This role involves providing direct patient care in the Cath Lab and other procedural areas, implementing outcome-based care plans, and educating patients and families. The nurse will perform independently as a scrub tech, circulator, and hemodynamic monitor, understanding the varying treatment needs of patients across the lifespan. They will initiate BLS/ACLS protocols in emergencies, utilize critical thinking skills, and coordinate care with a team approach. Responsibilities include medication administration, IV therapy management, pain management, and conscious sedation monitoring. The role also involves cross-training to other procedural areas, assisting with cardiovascular procedures, communicating clinical information, and documenting patient care. The nurse will conduct initial and ongoing assessments, perform indirect patient care activities, maintain equipment, and assist with supply ordering. Participation in quality monitoring, cost containment, process improvement, and precepting/mentoring new employees is expected. Follow-up calls to patients and assisting with surveys are also part of the role. The position requires age-specific care for adults and geriatrics, adherence to safety and infection control policies, and knowledge of emergency procedures. A strong understanding of applicable laws, Trinity Health's Integrity Program, and Standards of Conduct is necessary.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in Cath Lab or special procedures lab preferred or 3 years critical care experience
  • Possession of a current or compact state licensure as a Registered Nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa and IL RN license within one year
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • Mandatory Reporter
  • Intermediate language, high math, high reasoning ability
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people
  • Ability to work under pressure and with a large degree of independence
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Ability to perform within a team and good time management skills
  • Strong knowledge base in cardiac anatomy, physiology and Cardiac care
  • Must be able to analyze and interpret basic EKG tracings
  • Knowledge of cardiac medications, hemodynamic monitoring and fundamentals of sterile technique

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care activities in the Cath Lab & other applicable procedural areas implementing an outcome-based plan of care
  • Identifies learning needs and implements a plan for the patient, conducts patient and family teaching and documents teaching done
  • Appropriately uses equipment required to perform Cath Lab procedures
  • Understands varying treatment needs and approaches for patients across the life span, as appropriate to the department
  • Performs independently in the role of scrub tech, circulator, and hemodynamic monitor and obtains data collection with physiologic calculations specific to the procedure performed and documents
  • Initiates BLS/ACLS protocols as appropriate in cardiac emergencies
  • Provides care utilizing critical thinking skills based on patients' needs and acuity, and is consistent with policies and procedures of the department
  • Coordinates and provides care with a team approach
  • Demonstrates clinical competency
  • Facilitates medication administration, initiates and manages IV therapy
  • Assures medication safety by following the “5 Rights of Medication Administration”
  • Manages patient’s pain in accordance with policy
  • Monitors and manages conscious sedation/sedated patients in accordance with policy
  • Responsible for daily count of controlled substances
  • Cross trained to work in other procedural areas as needed
  • Assists with and implements appropriate interventions during Cardiovascular Procedures under the direction of a licensed professional
  • Communicates relevant clinical information to optimize patient outcomes to phys. and other health care professionals
  • Documents completely and legibly
  • Conducts an initial assessment and ongoing assessments
  • Completes initial assessment in accordance with policy
  • Completes ongoing assessments based on patient’s individual needs and/or unit specific time frames
  • Identifies problems, needs and/or changes in patient conditions and implements interventions
  • Performs indirect patient care activities to maintain department standards
  • Cleans and maintains equipment as needed
  • Assures all patient care and storage areas are clean and organized
  • Assists with supply ordering as assigned
  • Participates in unit-based quality monitoring of patient/procedural outcomes
  • Charges patient account for procedures and supplies in a timely manner
  • Demonstrates responsibility for cost-containment in daily practice
  • Identifies process improvement opportunities and supports change within the department/organization
  • Participates in and supports precepting and mentoring activities for new employees in the lab as requested by manager
  • Does follow up calls to patients as assigned. (customer service, fluoro time)
  • Familiar with regulatory requirements and assists with surveys as assigned
  • Based on principles of growth and development, provides care appropriate to the age-related needs of the patients served on his/her assigned unit, which may include: 18-65 Yrs: Adults and 65+ Yrs: Geriatrics
  • Collects, analyzes, interprets and applies age-specific data
  • Performs tasks/procedures, uses equipment in an age-appropriate manner
  • Communicates and works with others in an age-appropriate manner
  • Adheres to all safety, infection control and colleague health policies and procedures
  • Attends required safety programs
  • Appropriately and consistently uses the personal protective equipment required of the job
  • Knows and can demonstrate departmental emergency procedures for fire, disaster and other emergency situations
  • Reports and removes unsafe equipment/furniture
  • Asks for assistance when needed to assure safety for all involved
  • Maintains a safe working environment and practices safe working habits
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior
