About The Position

Ensures high quality, cost-effective nursing and related services to patients, physicians, and appropriate customer groups. Functions as a clinical expert within the service area and assists the unit Manager in the management of the unit including quality improvement activities. Interacts with patients and staff on an ongoing basis.

Requirements

  • Current RN license as defined by their primary work state (Idaho or Oregon), issued prior to hire date.
  • DAHO -Multistate licenses must establish residency with the Idaho Board of Nursing within 60 days from hire.
  • Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of leadership and supervision as normally obtained through a bachelor’s degree in nursing or health care related field with two years of RN experience in acute care or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At hire, Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required. (ACLS and/or PALS may be accepted in lieu of BLS).
  • Other certifications may be required as identified in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk.

Responsibilities

  • Meets Health System's Guiding Behaviors and Caring Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations.
  • Assists the Manager in overseeing department operations, responsible for shift operations, quality of care, staffing, program development and evaluations and medical staff relations.
  • Collaborates with Manager and QA representative to facilitate the interdisciplinary quality assurance program for nursing service delivery and overview of Quality and Safety initiatives.
  • Plans, assigns, and monitors work of staff.
  • Participates in supervisory duties including hiring, salary review, competency assessments, staff development, and counseling of employees.
  • In cooperation with other supervisors, monitors, documents and provides feedback to department staff on job performance.
  • Consistently performs the essential functions of a Registered Nurse in the assigned patient care unit and assists the nursing staff with patient care as needed.
  • Serves as a role model for nursing staff; maintains a current knowledge base of unit-specific nursing theory and skills.
  • Plans and/or participates in specific orientation of new employees including coordination of preceptors.
  • Serves as a mentor to new charge nurses.
  • Participates in development & review of policies and procedures and ensures they are reviewed, revised, and implemented in appropriate time frames.
  • Reviews patient grievances and incident (VOICE) reports.
  • Attends meetings and represents Nurse Manager in his/her absence.
  • Facilitates communication between patients and families and their physicians.
