About The Position

Chartwells Higher Education is seeking a salaried Catering Sous Chef at the University of Toledo. The role supports culinary operations for athletics and other standard catering events, including supervising, preparing, and cooking food; developing daily menu items and their preparation and garnishment; and coaching and developing hourly associates. The Catering Sous Chef collaborates with the Executive Chef and culinary team. Work hours vary according to event needs and include evenings and weekends.

Requirements

• Associate degree or equivalent experience.
• Culinary or kitchen management experience, depending on formal degree or training.
• Prior experience with catering and leading culinary operations for catering events.
• Comprehensive knowledge of food and catering trends, with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation.
• Computer experience.
• ServSafe® certification.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in high-volume, complex foodservice operations is highly desirable.
• Institutional and batch cooking experience is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Executive Chef and culinary team with managing cost controls and account expenditures.
• Assist the Executive Chef and culinary team with planning and creating menus.
• Produce and execute catering events.
• Roll out new culinary programs in conjunction with the marketing and culinary teams.
• Foster strong client relationships to align programs with client objectives and drive satisfaction and retention.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient functioning of dining service operations.
• Assist with supervision, preparation, and cooking of food items, as well as developing daily menu items and their preparation and garnishment.
• Supervise, coach, and develop hourly associates.
