About The Position

The Wisconsin Union, founded in 1907, is a central part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, serving as the campus's living room since 1928. It connects students, faculty, staff, members, and visitors through shared cultural, social, and recreational events. This role provides overall support for catering and dining areas at the Fluno Center, assisting with event preparation, setup, tear-down, and service. The position requires maintaining proper sanitation and reporting hazardous situations.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled as a student at a college or university

• Ability to stand or walk for majority of shift
• Ability to lift 20 pounds and push or pull 100 pound carts
• Student Status: To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment. Review UW Policy 5003- Student Hourly Employment for more information. If school is in break period (summer, spring, winter), applicants must intend to enroll in courses the following semester.

Nice To Haves

• Previous food service or restaurant experience is preferred but not required.
• Some weekend availability is appreciated.
• Specifically looking for individuals with server/bartending experience.
• Looking for one student who can work Monday-Thursdays 6:30am-11:30am

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of catering events, dining areas and break stations.
• Event set up and tear downs, set up buffet lines and break stations, refresh food and supplies.
• Provide table services as necessary, making menu recommendations, entering orders into POS systems, and collecting payments.
• Maintain proper sanitation at all times, report hazardous situations immediately.
