About The Position

The Cataract Consultant is responsible for consulting patients on surgery options and scheduling ophthalmic surgeries at the ambulatory surgery center and local hospitals. This role serves as a liaison between the patient and the surgeon, facility, pre-op staff, etc. The position requires a good understanding of ophthalmic practice and insurance coverages, with considerable attention to detail. The ability to communicate effectively with patients, surgeons, coworkers, and supervisors is critical. The candidate must be willing to assist in all areas.

  • Able to read, write, communicate, and present with a neat professional appearance
  • Ability to create a good impression as a friendly, empathetic, composed, and efficient individual
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and communicate recommended treatment options
  • Demonstrate reliability, a pleasant attitude, and willingness to perform duties as required
  • Able to maintain and comply with patient confidentiality and integrity on all matters
  • Ability to work independently and without direct supervision

Nice To Haves

  • Ophthalmology experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain outstanding customer service
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all surgery procedures
  • Communicate with patients, consulting patients on treatment options
  • Schedule pre-op and post-op visits
  • Review procedure insurance requirements and surgical consents
  • Address transportation requirements for patients
  • Address financial requirements
  • Obtain health clearance from PCP, cardiologist, etc.
  • Communicate Pre-Op and Post-Op medications to patients
  • Comply with HIPPA confidentiality standards
