About The Position

LAC Federal is seeking an experienced Cataloging Lead to support a large-scale inventory control and cataloging project. The Cataloging Lead will oversee a team of catalogers and technicians responsible for creating, correcting, and maintaining bibliographic records for monographs, serials, U.S. Federal Government publications, and special-format materials. The position requires strong cataloging expertise, leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain established production and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS/MLS).
  • Professional cataloging and bibliographic metadata experience, including experience cataloging U.S. Federal Government publications.
  • Knowledge of MARC21, RDA, AACR2, LCSH, LCC, SuDoc Classification, and national cataloging standards.
  • Experience using an Integrated Library System (ILS), such as Alma, Sierra, Voyager, Koha, or similar.
  • Experience providing leadership, workflow coordination, quality assurance, training, or guidance to cataloging staff.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work independently and meet production deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and provide day-to-day guidance, training, and support to a team of professional catalogers and cataloging technicians.
  • Create, correct, and enhance bibliographic records for monographs, serials, U.S. Federal Government publications, and special-format materials.
  • Perform descriptive and subject cataloging in accordance with MARC21, RDA, AACR2, LCSH, LCC, SuDoc Classification, and applicable Federal Depository Library standards.
  • Review cataloging work for accuracy and consistency, resolve duplicate or incomplete records, and provide quality assurance and corrective guidance as needed.
  • Update bibliographic and holdings information within the Integrated Library System (ILS) and verify information using authoritative reference sources.
  • Coordinate team workloads and monitor production, quality, and project deliverables to ensure established goals and deadlines are met.
  • Collaborate with LAC Federal management and client staff regarding cataloging priorities, workflows, exceptions, and project requirements.
  • Participate in project meetings, provide status updates, maintain required project documentation, and identify workflow and process improvements.
  • Assist with onboarding and mentoring new cataloging staff and perform other duties as assigned.
