About The Position

Ensure highest level of feline lifesaving efforts through maintaining a strong, positive relationship with the Purrfect Day Cafe and overseeing the Working Cat Program.

Requirements

  • General dog and cat knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.
  • Great interpersonal skills in person and by phone with clients, staff, and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, and ability to process paperwork accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Humane attitude towards animals.
  • Ability to manage the emotional aspect of end-of-life services and humane euthanasia, and support staff in high-emotion circumstances.
  • Accept, support, and represent KHS core values, programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Intermediate computer knowledge.
  • Ability to lift or otherwise move large animals – up to 50 pounds; full range of motion, including stooping, bending, reaching, etc.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record and be willing to drive KHS vehicles.
  • Background Check required.

Responsibilities

  • Purrfect Day Café and Working Cats Program Coordination.
  • Assist in monitoring cat population to identify eligible cats for Purrfect Day Café and the Working Cat program.
  • Coordinate with Population Manager/Supervisor and Foster Team to maintain ideal flow of cats to the Purrfect Day Cafe, including coordinating foster drop offs directly to the Cafe.
  • Prepare cats, paperwork, and supplies for the Purrfect Day Café.
  • Transport cats, paperwork, and supplies to the Purrfect Day Café daily in a safe and timely manner following KHS vehicle guidelines and transport best practices.
  • Administer vaccines and medication to cats at the Purrfect Dat Cafe as needed.
  • Verify Purrfect Day Cafe adoptions and financial closeouts are processed in a timely manner and communicate any issues to the Adoptions/Population Manager.
  • Responsible for Working Cat program including monitoring email and phone line, locating suitable working cat sites, facilitating adoption placements as quickly as possible, and preparing paperwork.
  • Assist Volunteer Manager by teaching basic cat handling and behavior to new volunteers through the Cat Mentorship class.
  • Enter and maintain correct animal records using Petpoint software system.
  • Monitor cat health in shelter and at Purrfect Day Cafe and communicate any health concerns to medical staff.
  • Provide professional, compassionate, stellar customer services to all who visit, call, volunteer, donate, or work for KHS.
  • Act as primary contact while maintaining good communication and relationship with Purrfect Day Café, including answering emails/phone calls, providing training/communication on new or changing processes, and addressing any issues in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with Working Cat adopters after placement to ensure health and wellbeing of cats while also responding to emails/phone calls for pre and post adoption needs and concerns.
  • Collaborate with the PR team to promote the Working Cat Program regularly in order to identify new placement opportunities.
  • Assist as needed or directed in supporting foster, intake, behavior, transport, and other critical shelter operations.
  • Use shelter software systems and employee communication systems to keep accurate animal inventory, write animal behavior and other memos, and keep abreast of all staff communication.
  • Communicate with supervisor on duty regarding unusual activities, significant problems or concerns.
  • Provide daily care, cleanliness, and enrichment to animals in care and maintain common areas.
  • Responsible for cleaning and sanitation of animal and common areas as needed with emphasis on disease control protocols; provide spot cleaning of animal areas throughout work schedule.
  • Provide all animals with appropriate housing, bedding, food, and water.
  • Provide animals with daily enrichment and mental stimulation including in kennel toys and food enrichment, walks for adult dogs, social interaction with humans, and (where appropriate) interactions with members of own species.
  • Follow and maintain excellent knowledge of organization, cleaning, sanitation, and safety practices to provide a healthy and safe environment for animals and people.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of all common shelter diseases and other animal illnesses to be able to identify their symptoms, transmission, and prevention including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
