About The Position

The Relief position, in Medicine Hat, AB, works closely with a team of professionals to support children and youth in a Community Group Home and Residential Program, including day/evening or Awake Overnight shifts. Please note that the following are non-negotiable compliance requirements for all Closer to Home employees before an offer letter can be issued. First Aid Certificate Level C from an Alberta OHS Approved Agency, A reliable personal vehicle, Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License, Clean 3 Year Driver’s Abstract, Proof of $2M Liability Auto Insurance Coverage, Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (completed within the last 6 months), Intervention Record Check (completed within the last 6 months). Requirements

  • First Aid Certificate Level C from an Alberta OHS Approved Agency
  • A reliable personal vehicle
  • Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Clean 3 Year Driver’s Abstract
  • Proof of $2M Liability Auto Insurance Coverage
  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (completed within the last 6 months)
  • Intervention Record Check (completed within the last 6 months)
  • Knowledge and experience supporting children and youth exhibiting challenging behaviours.
  • Willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for work-related purposes. Candidates must show proof of a class 5 Alberta driver's license, a personal vehicle, and a clean 3-year drivers abstract. Candidates must also agree to maintain $2 million liability insurance on their personal vehicle, and consent to the possibility of an annual driver's abstract review to meet our insurance provider’s requirements.
  • A Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and an Intervention Record Check must be completed prior to commencement.

Nice To Haves

  • A diploma or degree in a related field is preferred
  • Previous experience working with vulnerable children and families is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate success for children and youth by assisting with day to day activities and routines, maintaining a structured setting, fostering skill development, managing crisis, ensuring high levels of supervision to promote safety, and assisting with school.
  • Ensuring safety and providing for children and youth’s daily needs, while supporting the acquisition of relevant skills which will support them to live safely and thrive in the community.
  • Participate in supervision and meetings as needed, and implement pre-determined treatment strategies.
  • Identify availability and respond in a timely manner to requests to cover shifts, accepting a minimum of (3) shifts monthly to maintain their status.
  • Adhere to workplace protocols regarding animals in group homes, including reporting any allergy risks or concerns.
