About The Position

Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai’i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative professional and technical (APT) or Instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees and up to one calendar year for part-time employees. This position involves providing curriculum development, classroom instructions and program and student evaluations. The role will develop and deliver engaging training programs on various topics including, but not limited to: Entrepreneurship training, Life Skills training and Re-entry classes focusing on financial literacy, home management, health and nutrition, personal advocacy, cultural awareness, community resources, substance use and soft skills development, such as effective communication, teamwork and problem-solving, career communication training, including resume writing, interview techniques and workplace etiquette. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Public Health, Biology, Business or a related field.
  • One (1) year of experience working with marginalized or at-risk populations or workforce training experience.
  • Experience developing and creating course/training material such as curriculum development, syllabi, lesson plans, homework, classwork, exams and activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Public Health, Biology, Business or a related field.
  • Considerable working knowledge or experience of principles, practices and techniques in the area of correctional education programs and re-entry strategies.
  • Successful completion of volunteer training (VolinCor) for the DCR Education Branch.

Responsibilities

  • Provides curriculum development, classroom instructions and program and student evaluations.
