About The Position

This position assists in providing animal care in the Dairy Unit and supports a wide range of activities essential for the unit's efficient functioning and animal well-being. The role involves milking, feeding, and caring for livestock under limited supervision. The incumbent will be exposed to potential hazards such as animal dander, waste, and the unpredictability of large animals. This is a casual position that requires shift work, including days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.

Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 12.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Recent experience in a dairy milking parlour.
  • Demonstrated understanding of humane animal care and handling principles.
  • Record keeping skills.
  • Ability to operate farm equipment.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical labour.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience milking and animal handling is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with milking, feeding, handling, and caring for livestock under research and teaching conditions in accordance with the Canadian Council on Animal Care.
  • Operate farm equipment such as tractors, bobcat loader, manure spreaders, and trucks.
  • Monitor animals for health.
  • Perform various other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $16.75 - 20.43 per hour. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
