About The Position

The Center for the Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) in the School of Education at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for four Intervention Coach positions for a multi-part intervention project aiming to improve kindergarteners’ literacy skills and behavioral outcomes. The work will focus on providing coaching to participating teachers in the study. These positions require hybrid in-person and virtual components with a possibility of fully remote work.

Requirements

  • Reliable transportation for attending in-person trainings and any ongoing in-person work.
  • A bachelor's degree in social science, education, or a related field.
  • At least one year of experience in an early childhood environment.
  • Experience with coaching, consulting, technical assistance, and/or training adult educators and leaders in individual and group settings.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and access.
  • Excellent executive function skills: organization, time management, shifting focus (multitasking; alternating focus on details and ‘the big picture’ as needed).
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with a team in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in use of technology: Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel), Videoconferencing, teaching, or webinar tools (e.g., Zoom, Canvas), Virtual platforms or storage (e.g., Google Docs, OneDrive).

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s degree in education, counseling, social work, psychology or a related field is preferred and may substitute for some experience.
  • Experience in kindergarten literacy instruction.
  • Experience supporting teachers’ social-emotional instruction.
  • Experience in collecting and maintaining records.
  • Experience with in-person and virtual coaching or creating and facilitating online collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete extensive training on faithful implementation of the assigned project interventions.
  • Follow detailed manuals and participate in weekly supervision meetings.
  • Work bi-weekly with teachers to provide high-quality support on the assigned intervention following the teachers’ schedule.
  • Collaborate with teachers to review videotaped sessions of intervention implementation.
  • Engage with teachers through modeling, observation, feedback, and problem-solving techniques to ensure high-fidelity implementation.
  • Support for data collection activities to include administering assessments, collecting teacher forms, entering intervention data (attendance, dosage), and logistics/scheduling.
