About The Position

The Cast Tech works under the supervision of a registered nurse and supports patient care in an orthopedic clinic. The role includes cast application and removal, durable medical equipment (DME) application and inventory maintenance, technical procedures, and direct and indirect patient care activities that support comprehensive care and efficient clinic operations. The employee is expected to uphold YNHHS values of integrity, patient-centered care, respect, accountability, and compassion.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of orthopedic and/or ambulatory experience required.
• Knowledge of anatomy and skill in cast application required.
• Good manual dexterity.
• Ability to use power equipment.
• Ability to assist with lifting patients, stand or walk most of the workday, and use good body mechanics.

Nice To Haves

• Orthopedic Technician Certification or Medical Assistant certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of a registered nurse, provide patient care.
• Greet patients and escort them to the exam room.
• Under the direction of a physician or registered nurse, perform technical procedures that contribute to safe patient care.
• Remove casts and perform casting procedures.
• Fabricate and fit braces and splints according to protocol and physician orders.
• Participate in educational activities that contribute to patient care, staff education, and self-development.
• Complete all mandatory training within the annual performance period.
• Support clinic operations effectively.
• Report faulty equipment and environmental problems to the nurse manager or designee.
• Apply durable medical equipment and maintain DME inventory.
