About The Position

The Cashier position at Carriage is responsible for providing excellent customer service, accurately processing sales transactions, and maintaining a clean and organized store environment. This role involves direct customer interaction, cash handling, supporting community programs, and ensuring the store's appearance meets company standards. The cashier will also assist with promotions, stocking, and training new employees, while adhering to all company policies and safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Ability to greet customers in a prompt, friendly, and courteous manner.
  • Proficiency in operating a POS system for accurate sales data entry.
  • Experience with proper cash handling and transaction processing.
  • Understanding of coupon and discount processing.
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness of store areas.
  • Skill in returning merchandise and carts to appropriate areas.
  • Ability to assist with promotions and displays.
  • Capability to stock and maintain counter and showcase areas.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and material handling equipment.
  • Willingness to train new cashiers.
  • Ability to clean dressing rooms and re-hang clothes.
  • Skill in placing and rotating merchandise on the sales floor.
  • Adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of safety practices and reporting procedures.
  • Adherence to policies regarding theft, pilferage, and cash handling.
  • Ability to perform duties within the framework of Guiding Principles.
  • Willingness to participate in external activities.
  • Ability to attend assigned training sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Greeting customers in a prompt, friendly, and courteous manner, both in person and via phone, and offering assistance.
  • Operating the POS system to ensure accurate and efficient sales data entry, including correct pricing and merchandise codes.
  • Handling all cash transactions accurately, including the proper processing of coupons and discounts.
  • Ensuring the integrity of the “Change Round-up” program by asking customers to round up their change to support the mission of Memphis Goodwill.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of front doors, counters, glass, cases, and the front of the store.
  • Returning shopping carts, baskets, and unsold merchandise to their appropriate areas.
  • Assisting with promotions, including gathering customer information, posting materials, and setting up special sign displays.
  • Stocking and maintaining counter, showcases, and cash/wrap areas in a neat and clean condition.
  • Working safely, adhering to proper handling of material movement equipment, and communicating any safety hazards or concerns.
  • Assisting in training new cashiers.
  • Cleaning dressing rooms and re-hanging clothes as needed.
  • Placing apparel, wares, shoes, accessories, etc., on the sales floor in the correct locations and rotating merchandise as needed.
  • Adhering to all Memphis Goodwill policies and procedures, including safety practices and reporting hazards/injuries.
  • Adhering to policies regarding theft, pilferage, and handling of cash receipts.
  • Performing assigned duties within the framework of the company's Guiding Principles.
  • Potentially participating in activities outside of Goodwill.
  • Attending in-service and related training as assigned.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Team Leader Coach.
