About The Position

The Brattleboro Food Co-op is seeking a Cashier to accurately cash out customers in a friendly, courteous manner. This role involves assisting customers as needed, maintaining a positive attitude, and becoming familiar with co-op policies. The Cashier will also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the checking area, answering the phone, and adhering to dress guidelines. This position reports to the Front End Manager and the Supervisor on Duty for each shift.

Requirements

  • Experience working with a touch screen cash register
  • Experience handling large amounts of money accurately
  • Experience working in a customer service setting
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to function independently
  • Ability to perform basic math, including but not limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percentages.
  • Must be able to work weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately cash out customer purchases.
  • Maintain a polite, friendly, and helpful attitude towards internal and external customers.
  • Become familiar with co-op policies to answer customer questions.
  • Refer unresolved questions or issues to the Front End Lead.
  • Direct customers to the Customer Service booth for applications if they do not have check-writing privileges.
  • Guide customers interested in becoming shareholders to the Shareholder Service booth or find assistance if the booth is unstaffed.
  • Unobtrusively and politely request assistance at the register when needed.
  • Distribute co-op information to customers as directed by the Front End Manager.
  • Follow dress guidelines: no stained, revealing, or torn clothing; no open-toed shoes or sleeveless shirts.
  • Maintain the checking area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Answer the phone and refer calls to appropriate staff when supervisors are unavailable.
  • Keep the drawer to the register closed except when finishing a transaction or getting change.
  • Adhere to safe working conditions and promote health and welfare.
  • Come to work on time.
  • Take breaks at appropriate times and return on time.
  • Provide support and help to colleagues.
  • Foster a cohesive, supportive work environment by contributing to department goals and sharing information, ideas, and solutions.
  • Attend quarterly Front End meetings.
  • Accept responsibility for personal decisions and actions.
  • Exemplify honesty, integrity, and ethics.
  • Check register rolls and change as needed.
  • Prepare a $400 drawer at the end of the shift and count the drawer twice.
  • Inform the front end supervisor if the drawer is off.
  • Keep adequate change in the register and avoid letting it get too low.
  • Request change when needed using the designated form.
  • Leave the cash drawer in the register when cleaning it, ready for the counting room.
