About The Position

The Cashier performs retail sales functions, accepts merchandise donations, and selects and prices donated goods and textiles for sale in accordance with the Retail Procedures Manual. The role provides friendly, professional customer service; operates the cash register; handles and prepares donations; and performs merchandise sorting, stocking, quality-control, and housekeeping tasks. The position also includes loading and unloading materials, testing electrical appliances for safe operation, disinfecting upholstered materials, and completing assigned reports. The employee must work a flexible schedule to meet store needs, follow agency policies and safety standards, and maintain a professional and helpful attitude. No supervisory responsibilities are assigned.

Requirements

Ability to pass a criminal background check and random drug screens.
Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear regularly; occasional climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and tasting or smelling may be required.
Vision abilities including close, distance, and color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Ability to perform housekeeping and shipping and receiving duties safely, including some work outdoors in the elements.
Ability to accept and load donations, sort and pack donations, and maintain donation records and reports.
Willingness and ability to work as a team member and independently.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or GED.
Experience in retail sales involving cashiering, customer service, and shipping/receiving.
Box truck experience.

Responsibilities

Provide friendly, professional customer service, including greeting and assisting customers, selling, and answering telephone inquiries.
Operate the cash register accurately and efficiently, handling change, receipts, checks, charges, and discounts.
Receive, handle, accept, and load donated clothing, furniture, appliances, and other household goods.
Load and sort materials on trailers according to instructions; perform shipping and receiving duties, including safely loading and unloading trailers, potentially using powered equipment.
Inspect donated textiles, furniture, appliances, household wares, novelty items, books, toys, decorations, and sporting goods for saleability.
Sort and hang garments, place them on appropriate racks, keep the pulling system up to date, stock shelves, and maintain displays.
Meet Goodwill quality-control standards for textiles, miscellaneous goods, and furniture.
Test electrical appliances to determine whether they operate safely.
Price merchandise according to prescribed criteria and prepare textiles and other goods for resale.
Disinfect upholstered materials using Steri-Fab.
Complete assigned reports accurately, including donation counts, readings, daily business statements, deposits, and cash-drawer records.
Maintain premises in compliance with agency safety and housekeeping practices, including housekeeping tasks such as vacuuming and cleaning restrooms.
Follow the Goodwill dress code and maintain a professional image and attitude.
Work a flexible schedule in accordance with store needs and perform other duties as assigned.
Comply with agency policies, procedures, and safety standards, including applicable CARF, Department of Labor, and other regulatory standards.
Work as a team member and independently, and contribute suggestions and decisions that support continuous improvement and store growth.
