About The Position

This role involves checking out customers and providing excellent customer service. The cashier will adhere to Seaside Market policies and procedures when operating the cash register, verify till contents at the beginning of the shift, and accurately record daily transaction amounts to balance the cash drawer. Responsibilities include memorizing produce codes, packaging groceries according to customer preference, collecting shopping carts, performing stocking tasks, directing customers to departments and aisles, and observing all store rules and company policies. The position also requires maintaining a neat appearance, following safety and health guidelines, and understanding Weight & Measure Laws.

Requirements

Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Cashiers who sell alcoholic beverages must be 18 years old or older (as mandated by California state law).
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
No computer skills required.
Food Handler Certifications.
Regularly required to stand and use the hands to handle, finger, or feel objects, tools or controls and engages in repetitive motions.
Must frequently walk, talk, or hear, and reach with the hands and arms.
Occasionally must crouch or kneel.
Occasionally must exert or lift up to 50 pounds supplies and frequently exert or lift negligible amounts of weight.
Specific vision abilities that include close vision and the ability to adjust focus including possessing sufficient visual acuity to verify invoices and other written documents.
Able to sweep and mop floor and lift and carry out trash containers to be emptied in an outside bin.
Sufficient physical mobility or agility to be able to respond quickly to fire or other emergencies such as cleanup requests due to accidental spills or breakage of glass.
Able to tolerate moderate amounts of dust and chemical fumes from common household cleaning agents such as ammonia during routine housekeeping duties.

Follows safety guidelines when working, especially when lifting, using cutting tools, large machinery, ladders, stretch and take breaks when performing repetitive motions.
Follows health guidelines to ensure safe product is provided to our customers.
Knowledge of Weight & Measure Laws.
