About The Position

The Cashier provides a positive first impression and strives to exceed customer expectations by identifying needs, delivering solutions, adding value, and ensuring customers leave satisfied. The role processes transactions accurately and efficiently according to company guidelines and applicable laws, bags purchases safely and appropriately, and informs customers about services and events. Cashiers solve problems using critical thinking and organized reasoning, maintain a focus on quality and safety, and provide helpful, respectful, and hospitable service in support of Harps’ mission to offer value through competitive prices, quality and freshness, friendly service, and cleanliness. The position requires dependable and professional conduct, including compliance with company policies, regular and timely attendance, appropriate dress, and a willingness to perform other duties as assigned. Candidates must be at least 16 years old. Employment may be contingent on completion and evaluation of a PEP survey, drug screen, employment reference check, criminal background check, or credit check.

Requirements

Must be at least 16 years of age.
Ability to interpret, understand, and follow instructions.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Ability to move, lift, carry, and place merchandise and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds without assistance.
Frequently reach overhead and below the knees and perform pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, and twisting, with or without bearing weight.
Perform continuous repetitive hand and arm motions, such as grasping, gripping, and turning.
Stand and/or walk continuously throughout a shift for up to four hours without a break.
Ability to visually locate merchandise and other objects and verify information, often in small print.
May be exposed to weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, snow, ice, and wind, as well as indoor variations in heat, cold, dust, and humidity.
May be exposed to chemicals or allergens, including latex, eggs, nuts, soy, and wheat.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience operating a cash register and handling cash or other forms of tender, preferably in a grocery store or retail establishment; experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Process customer transactions quickly and efficiently using the register system, following company guidelines and laws governing restricted transactions.
Bag or assist with bagging purchases using food-safety practices and correct product placement.
Identify customer needs, provide appropriate solutions such as carryout, and remind customers about store services and upcoming events.
Define and resolve issues using critical thinking and organized reasoning.
Produce and promote high-quality products and services while following procedures that support personal and customer safety.
Build respectful, sincere relationships with customers and colleagues.
Provide superior customer service by removing barriers to service and following the SMILE Program guidelines.
Demonstrate dependability, thoroughness, integrity, and professionalism; comply with Harps’ policies and procedures, including attendance and dress-code requirements.
Support teamwork and cooperation, treat others fairly, and help colleagues as appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned.
