About The Position

The Brattleboro Food Co-op is owned by thousands of local shareholders and is committed to improving the quality of life for our community, one meal at a time. We offer competitive wages, great benefits, and an excellent work-life balance. This position reports to the Front End Manager in general, and the Supervisor on Duty at each shift. The purpose of this role is to accurately cash out customers in a friendly, courteous manner, and to assist customers as needed and appropriate.

Requirements

  • Experience working with a touch screen cash register
  • Experience handling large amount of money accurately
  • Experience working in a customer service setting
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to function independently
  • Ability to perform basic math, including but not limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percentages.
  • Must be available to work weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain polite, friendly and helpful attitude towards internal and external customers.
  • Become familiar with co-op policies in order to answer questions.
  • Refer un-resolved questions or issues to Front End Lead.
  • Refer customers without check-writing privileges to the Customer Service booth to fill out an application.
  • Send customers who want to become shareholders to the Shareholder Service booth, or get someone in the front end to help them if no one is at the shareholder service booth.
  • Unobtrusively and politely request, by gesture and/or voice, the need for help at the register by supervisor or head cashier.
  • Distribute any co-op information to customers when asked by the Front End Manager.
  • Follow dress guidelines: no stained, revealing, or torn clothing; no open-toed shoes or sleeveless shirts.
  • Maintain checking area in clean, orderly condition.
  • Answer phone and refer calls to appropriate staff when Supervisor or Head Cashier are not available.
  • Keep drawer to register closed except when finishing a transaction or getting change from the house bank.
  • Adhere to safe working conditions and promote health & welfare.
  • Come to work on time.
  • Take breaks when appropriate and come back from break on time.
  • Provide support and help to others.
  • Foster a cohesive, supportive work environment by contributing to department goals and sharing information, ideas, and solutions.
  • Attend quarterly Front End meetings.
  • Accept responsibility for personal decisions and actions.
  • Exemplify honesty, integrity and ethics.
  • Check out customer purchases with accuracy.
  • Check register rolls and change as needed.
  • Prepare $400 drawer at the end of shift and place rest of money (in order), checks, gift card slips, coupons.
  • Count your drawer twice at the end of your shift to ensure your drawer is on.
  • Inform the front end supervisor in case their bank is over or under if your drawer is off at the end of your shift.
  • Keep adequate change in register and do not let change get too low.
  • When in need of change, write down request on laminated form in blue bag at every register and give to the head cashier or supervisor. Leave on top of the small safe in the booth.
  • While cleaning register, leave cash drawer in register till ready to go into the counting room.
