About The Position

The Cashier provides high-quality customer service and smooth interactions that align with Goodwill Houston’s service standards. The role collects payment for merchandise by accurately itemizing and totaling purchases and processing transactions. It also assists with merchandising priced goods on the sales floor and keeps assigned areas clean, organized, attractive, safe, and easy to shop. The Cashier supports Goodwill Houston’s mission of connecting people to opportunities through education, training, and employment. The role reports to the Store Manager and is part of the Donated Goods Program (DGP).

Requirements

Ability to perform basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Ability to communicate effectively and interact well with people with diverse personalities and communication styles.
Excellent customer service skills.
Reliable transportation.
Ability to stand, twist, bend, squat, reach, kneel, push, and pull.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift or move items up to 100 pounds.
Ability to stand for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Retail sales experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Greet customers and answer basic questions about store operations, merchandise, and programs.
Accurately operate electronic cash registers, credit card devices, and POS systems to process customer payments.
Explain the benefits of the Loyalty Rewards Program and assist customers with enrollment.
Encourage customer participation in Change Round Up and explain how it supports Goodwill Houston’s mission and program services.
Move merchandise from processing areas to the appropriate sales floor areas efficiently and promptly.
Arrange new goods and queue items according to planograms and store layouts.
Keep racks and shelves stocked and organized, rotate merchandise, and remove older items to maintain a full, appealing sales floor.
Complete the 5-Minute Drill and maintain recovery standards, cleanliness, organization, and consistent merchandising in assigned areas.
Keep the cash wrap clean and organized, removing hangers as necessary to support smooth transactions.
Perform housekeeping and janitorial duties in assigned sales floor areas and restrooms; keep spaces clean, safe, and free of clutter.
Help maintain the safety and security of associates, customers, and company property.
Immediately report all work incidents and injuries.
Follow company policies, loss prevention and safety regulations, guiding principles, and applicable laws.
Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, punctuality, dependability, and a cooperative attitude; keep aisles and pathways to fire exits clear.
Complete other duties as assigned by management.
