About The Position

This position operates the point-of-sale (POS) system, handles customer transactions and cash drawers, and provides high-quality service in dining facilities. Key duties include scanning items, processing payments, cleaning service areas, and stocking and maintaining the cafeteria front of house. The role also assists cooks and the catering coordinator in preparing food according to a standardized menu for patients, providers, events, and guests during non-service hours. It involves assisting in the production and service of general, therapeutic, and modified texture diets in a sanitary manner with accuracy and acceptability.

Requirements

  • High school or GED equivalent required.
  • Able to lift and carry in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Able to stand/walk for the duration of shift.
  • Able to work long hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, as needed.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of all pertinent patient information.
  • Must be familiar and comply with NC Statutes relating to food service work and federal and state regulations pertaining to occupational safety and health, infection control, EPA standards, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Must have annual TB test and mandatory Hepatitis A series.
  • Consistently demonstrates superior customer service skills to patients/customers by demonstrating characteristics that align with CIHA’s guiding principles and core values.
  • Ensure excellent customer service is provided to all patients/customers by seeking out opportunities to be of service.

Responsibilities

  • Operates the POS system (cash register).
  • Completes required financial reports, cash handling, and closeouts.
  • Manages the front of house of the cafeteria, ensuring clean and sanitary conditions.
  • Stocks and ensures proper rotation and display of all product in front of house merchandisers and food serving/displaying equipment.
  • Prepares food and beverages according to cycle menu, census, and patient diet orders.
  • Prepares food following standardized recipes, scaling recipes appropriately.
  • Peels, washes, trims, and cuts up vegetables and fruits.
  • Is knowledgeable in patient menu execution, including proper serving sizes, interpreting a diet spreadsheet, modifying food for IDDSI textures, evaluating final food products, and serving trays accurately at appropriate temperatures.
  • Prepares and serves all types of cold sides, salads, sandwiches, desserts, breads, and baked items, as well as additional items for therapeutic or modified texture diets.
  • Prepares food to reduce waste and spoilage.
  • Presents items that are visually appealing and conform to established food standards.
  • Prepares food to preserve nutritional value, color, palatability, and acceptability.
  • Prepares special foods per patient request.
  • Manages time effectively to have menu items ready for serving at meal times and trays delivered within pre-determined time frames.
  • Loads, unloads, and properly maintains the dish machine, keeping appropriate records.
  • Maintains a clean, disinfected, and orderly work station.
  • Observes high personal hygiene standards and all required safe food handling practices.
  • Checks refrigerator thermometers frequently and reports temperature variations promptly.
  • Follows approved safety and fire regulations.
  • Receives, checks, and properly stores food deliveries promptly when designated.
  • Examines all food for quality and freshness before preparation under direction of the Cook.
  • Stocks, rotates, and performs inventory of food/supplies in patient nourishment areas.
  • Delivers meal carts and patient trays to designated areas at designated times; subsequently, retrieves these items and returns to the kitchen.
  • Adheres to all CIHA policies and attends training programs and in-services as scheduled; completes Relias online training courses by due dates.
  • Performs cleaning duties as assigned by the daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedule.
  • Takes on additional cleaning projects as assigned.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
