Utopia Market is a new build post and beam bank barn located in Grey Highlands, offering locally grown and produced food and products. The market features premium organic meats, vegetables, and artisan breads made from locally sourced grains. The atmosphere aims to evoke a nostalgic feel of the 1920s with a focus on organic, locally sourced, and healthy options. The part-time Farm Markets Barista/Cashier supports daily market operations by assisting customers at checkout, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and providing general help with setup, stocking, and customer service. This role is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality coffee and espresso beverages in a farm market setting, combining excellent customer service with barista/cashier skills to create a welcoming, community-focused experience.
Requirements
- Previous barista experience
- Friendly, approachable, and comfortable engaging with customers with strong communication skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work through the week or on weekends.
- Basic math and cash-handling skills.
Nice To Haves
- Food handler certification or equivalent.
- Physical ability to lift up to 30 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers and provide excellent service in a friendly, professional manner.
- Prepare and serve espresso coffee and specialty beverages.
- Operate coffee equipment (espresso machine, grinders, brewers) safely and efficiently.
- Operate the cash register or point-of-sale (POS) system to process cash, debit, and credit card transactions accurately.
- Handle cash, credit/debit transactions, and maintain accurate sales records.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized area.
- Answer customer questions about products, pricing, and availability.
- Support team members with restocking, product display, and other general tasks as needed.
- Keep your working area, equipment, and serving area clean, organized, and compliant with food safety standards.
- Work as part of a small team to ensure smooth operations during market hours.
