About The Position

Compass Family Services is a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting families experiencing or at risk of homelessness in San Francisco. The SF HOME team specifically focuses on helping these families secure safe, stable, and affordable housing. The program offers support with housing searches, financial assistance for move-in costs and rent, and case management aimed at ensuring long-term housing stability. The Case Manager role involves providing ongoing support to families in the rental subsidy program, with a strong emphasis on housing retention and long-term stability. This includes traveling around the Bay Area for home visits and providing services in Spanish and English as needed. Responsibilities include building trusting relationships with families, collaborating on goal setting for stability and well-being, offering counseling and crisis intervention, connecting families with internal and external resources, facilitating rent and subsidy payments, and managing landlord/property manager relations. The role also requires maintaining accurate client records and data entry in Salesforce and ONE System.

Requirements

  • CA Driver’s License and ability to be approved as a Zipcar driver required.
  • Experience working with people in crisis.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues facing homeless and low-income families.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including relationship-building, networking, and ability to develop trusting relationships with a diverse set of individuals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging work.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Suite of Programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Develop positive relationships with families that foster connection, support, and trust.
  • Partner with families to develop short and long-range stability, self-sufficiency and well-being goals.
  • Provide counseling, crisis intervention, and referrals to services offered both within Compass and externally.
  • Connect with families regularly through office visits, home visits, and phone/email/text contact.
  • Work with family and Compass finance team to ensure timely payment of rent and rental subsidies, and help families to navigate any challenges that arise with their landlord/property manager.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client files and promptly enter case notes, assessments, and service plans in Compass’ Salesforce database and ONE System.
