About The Position

The Office of Student Outreach and Support (SOS) is seeking a dedicated, highly organized, collaborative, and student-focused Case Manager, Scholar-Athlete Specialist with expertise in collegiate athletics and student support. This individual will join a team of non-clinical Case Managers providing one-on-one support, coordination, referral, and follow-up services for undergraduate students facing significant difficulties related to mental health, physical health and injuries, family emergencies, and other concerns. The role involves supporting both scholar-athletes and other undergraduate students, requiring the ability to manage high-acuity needs and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. This position will lead the office's support for scholar-athletes, serving as the SOS point of contact within Athletics, maintaining knowledge of Athletics Department and NCAA guidelines, and managing a broader caseload of Homewood undergraduate students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Three years related experience.
  • Knowledge of current case management trends and literature preferred.
  • Ability to work some evenings/weekends as required for events and programming.
  • Knowledge of privacy guidelines related to educational records and judgment to appropriately communicate difficult/sensitive information with relevant parties.
  • Knowledge and experience providing student support, collaborating across disciplines in a higher education setting, and working to uphold values of diversity and inclusion.
  • Team-player who can work with others across disciplines, roles, and functions as well as perform work independently.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, ability to quickly synthesize information from a variety of sources to make informed recommendations in the best interest of individual student needs, and who can adapt to changes in process or policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in education, counseling, social work, public health, or related field.
  • Experience working in non-clinical case management or other student support role within a higher education setting.
  • Experience using Maxient and Starfish.
  • Experience responding/assisting students who present in high levels of distress and connecting them with appropriate resources.
  • Experience working as part of a case management support team and navigating complex, decentralized environments.
  • Experience as a scholar-athlete, or in an athletics setting.

Responsibilities

  • Meet 1:1 with students experiencing challenges to understand their unique circumstances, identify appropriate next steps, connect to relevant resources, and track their progress towards identified goals.
  • Support scholar-athletes and undergraduate students generally who are injured, hospitalized, or post-surgery and during concussion recovery.
  • Work as the SOS liaison with the Athletics and Recreation departments.
  • Sit on the Homewood CARE Team and Hopkins 360.
  • Document all information and communication in Maxient.
  • Contact and collaborate with other University departments to expedite resolution of problems.
  • Provide referrals to support services within the University and community agencies.
  • Follow up and track prior cases to ensure student compliance with recommendations and adequate staff support for the student.
  • Maintain and monitor factual case records in a variety of electronic student record systems (Maxient, Starfish, Student Information System).
  • Assist in developing and delivering training to students and/or campus partners and consulting with faculty, staff, students, parents, and external stakeholders.
  • Attend office and departmental meetings and training for both Student Outreach and Support and Athletics and support goals/initiatives of both.
  • Develop and distribute appropriate marketing materials.
  • Attend night and weekend scholar-athlete events and other Student Affairs events as needed.
  • Engage with scholar-athlete organizations, such as the scholar-athlete Advisory Committee and others as needed.
  • Other duties that support the office of Student Outreach and Support’s role of providing non-clinical case management to undergraduate students and the specific support needs of scholar-athletes.
