About The Position

The Parent Educator delivers the Parents as Teachers program to families with children birth to kindergarten entry. Sharing information about child development and parenting skills, the Parent Educator helps parents support their children to reach their full potential. Parent Educators develop visit plans using the Parents as Teachers curriculum, conduct in-home and virtual visits with families, conduct screenings and assessments, and connect families to resources.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of related work experience working with community resources, local education agencies and conducting home visits / working with families and children.
  • Basic skill level in Microsoft Office applications (i.e. word processing, email applications, and internet usage).
  • Ability to adhere to standards of confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • High degree of initiative and independent judgment.
  • Ability to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high attention to detail and good follow-up skills. Must be self-motivated, proactive and solution focused.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a comprehensive record-keeping system and office procedures.
  • Ability to express self effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to tactfully and effectively deal with public, staff and patrons.
  • Ability to work in culturally diverse households and communities, and display cultural sensitivity and competence with others.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with general direction.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, early childhood education, health, psychology or related field.
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License and appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Must meet the requirements to become a credentialed Parent Educator as required by the Parents as Teachers National Center.

Nice To Haves

  • Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office applications preferred.
  • Experience with OCHIDS, Visit Tracker preferred.
  • Credentialed Parent Educator preferred.
