About The Position

Kainaiwa Children's Services Corporation is a growing, dynamic First Nations organization providing programs and services to Blood Tribe children and families in need of support and protection so that they can become positive, healthy contributing members of our community; while maintaining KCSC's Vision, Mission Statements and incorporating Blood Tribe Traditions through "Kainayssini" the Declaration of the Elders of the Blood Indian Nation. Under the direct supervision of the Assessor/Investigation Supervisor of Blood Tribe Child Protection Services Corporation, the Case Aid is responsible for supporting the Frontline Case Manager and Supervisors in a supportive manner where support is required, including closing files, setting up visits, and covering intake calls as requested by the BTCP Supervisor or Manager. The Case Aid should have good oral and written skills and should also be proficient with computer skills. The Case Aid must be willing to work in a fast paced environment with flexible working hours.

Requirements

  • Social Work degree or diploma with one year of related experience, or a related Human Services discipline with two years of related experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of the applicable child welfare legislation, First Nations Agreements and Protocols.
  • Excellent interviewing, assessment, and analytical skills is an asset.
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient use of various computers and software.
  • Knowledge of the Blackfoot Language and culture is an asset.
  • Resume and cover letter are required for consideration.
  • The successful candidate(s) will be required to provide a current Criminal Record Check and Intervention Record Check, education verification, three employment references, and a valid driver's licence and/or driver's abstract.

Responsibilities

  • Gather information via collateral contacts such as schools, doctors, police, and community resources to determine the needs and degree of risk of harm to a child.
  • Complete a monthly statistical record on the number of files brought to the attention of BTCPS and keep a monthly statistical record of all Case Aid support requests received in a month.
  • Take the initiative to become familiar with all processes that support children and families receiving Intervention Services with Blood Tribe Child Protection Services.
  • Negotiate goals and determine appropriate programs and services to meet the child and family's needs, and make appropriate referrals for the child and family as directed by the Supervisor and Manager.
  • Provide smooth transition supports for the child and family from Intake/Screening to Assessment to Ongoing Case for family enhancement intervention services and protection services.
  • Work with KCSC Programs as a support to families before tendering services outside the Corporation.
  • Obtain prior approval of services from the Case Work Supervisor and Manager before making arrangements for a child and/or family.
  • Maintain a reliable vehicle with two million dollars in passenger liability coverage.
  • Submit annual Criminal Record Checks and Child Welfare Intervention Checks, and any other documents at the request of BTCP Management, upon successful completion of the probation period.
  • Maintain the strictest confidence when working with children and families.
  • Build relationships with all staff within BTCPS and KCSC programs, from Admin Staff to program staff, taking the initiative to establish these working relationships.
  • Complete home visits in the community for face to face visits with children, youth, and families involved with Blood Tribe Child Protection Services, where Partial Delegation of Authority is granted.
