About The Position

The Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is seeking a qualified Carpentry Instructor to provide high-quality, competency-based instruction. This role supports the individual learning needs of students and aligns with the Commonwealth's educational standards, statutes, and program certification requirements. The instructor will design and deliver engaging, research-based instruction, foster a safe, respectful, and student-centered learning environment, and use student data to inform instruction, monitor progress, and promote academic success.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or a Virginia Board of Education-approved high school equivalency credential.
  • Possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License or Virginia Technical Professional License; OR Have at least two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) occupational experience within the past five years in carpentry.

Nice To Haves

  • Postsecondary coursework or apprenticeship training in carpentry from an accredited college, technical school, or recognized training program.
  • NCCER Instructor Certification or experience delivering NCCER Carpentry curriculum.
  • Experience as a Carpentry Instructor in a secondary setting.
  • Experience teaching at-risk youth.
  • Current OSHA Construction Trainer Card.
