About The Position

This position is responsible for the safe condition of flooring, doorframes, doors, window frames, staircases, stair treads, wall paneling, ceiling paneling, hardware, and similar structural elements in District-owned facilities. The Carpenter will determine which repair jobs should be performed by staff and contractors, advise the supervisor accordingly, recommend supplies and equipment for purchase, and estimate costs of repair projects in terms of labor, material, and overhead. Regular examination of District facilities for preventative maintenance is also a key responsibility. The role requires adherence to all District policies and regulations, and performance of other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Graduate from high school or have a general education degree.
  • Four to five years of related experience and/or training.
  • Read and interpret procedures, policies, and regulations, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, staff, and the public.
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of non-standard situations.
  • Interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Valid Alaska driver’s license.
