The Carpenter position is a full-time, 100% appointment within the Facilities Management department at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. This role is responsible for performing skilled carpentry work, including construction, erection, installation, and repair of structures and fixtures made of wood and substitute materials. The position ensures the adequate, safe, and operable condition of institutional facilities through various maintenance, renovation, and preventative maintenance tasks. Additional duties include performing semi-annual inspections of campus building roofs, making repairs to the building envelope, installing and repairing interior walls, partitions, ceilings, tile floors, doors, frames, hardware, and windows. The role also involves design functions for new or altered campus structures, laying out modifications, designing wood cabinetry, assisting other crafts, estimating construction costs, and reviewing architectural/engineering designs. Fabrication and installation of custom and pre-manufactured cabinets and countertops, working with customers on design, and custom construction with various materials are key responsibilities. The position also coordinates and determines specifications for campus signage, lays out and engraves signs, and utilizes a vinyl cutter. Furthermore, the Carpenter assists in door, window, and lock repairs, handles lock-related issues during the locksmith's absence, and performs concrete work, including form setting, pouring, and finishing, as well as overseeing contracted concrete work.
