About The Position

Kokosing is seeking Carpenters (Heavy Highway – Roadway/Bridge projects) with experience in form work for bridges/structures to work on bridge/heavy highway projects in the Northern VA/DC/MD area, Hagerstown, MD, and Wallops Island, VA. The role involves constructing, erecting, and repairing structures, and requires the individual to have their own hand tools. The company is one of America's 50 largest General Contractors with over 75 years of experience in heavy civil/industrial construction.

Requirements

  • Experience in form work for bridges/structures.
  • Must have own hand tools.
  • Skilled in use of necessary hand and power tools.
  • Must be able to work with a level.
  • Carpenter Training Program or equivalent, or experience in bridge work, i.e. bridge form work.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to read a rule.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Must frequently work or walk on uneven ground.
  • Required to wear steel toed boots at all times.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Constructs, erects, and repairs structures.
  • Works while tied off to fall protection.
  • Studies and understands blueprints, sketches, or bridge plans for information pertaining to type of material required.
  • Selects specified type of lumber or other materials.
  • Prepares layout.
  • Measures boards, timbers, or plywood, and marks cutting lines on materials.
  • Shapes materials to prescribed measurements.
  • Nails cleats (braces) across boards to construct concrete-supporting forms.
  • Braces forms in place with timbers, tie rods, and anchor bolts, for use in building concrete piers, footing, and walls.
  • Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue.
  • Sets expansion dams.
  • Assembles or runs overhang modules or stick-built overhangs.
  • Climbs wingwalls and retaining walls.
  • Assembles wood deck forms.
  • Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
  • Assists in pouring and finishing of concrete.
  • Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
