The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Carpenter for its Construction and Support department. The position is based at the MFC facility and follows a 4x10 schedule, with Fridays off. The Carpenter fabricates, installs, constructs, modifies, and repairs wood and metal structures and facility components. Work includes building and erecting platforms and scaffolding; performing carpentry, cabinetry, maintenance, concrete-form, concrete-finishing, core-drilling, flooring, ceiling-tile, and minor carpet-repair tasks; and repairing door latches, locks, and closures. The role requires reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and other technical documents, following procedures and supervisor direction, completing required training and maintaining qualifications, and performing preventive maintenance. Other duties may be assigned. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, 10 years of relevant experience, and journeyman-level Carpenter qualifications. The employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy “L” clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, a valid state driver's license, and medical qualifications that do not restrict performance of the position's minimum requirements. This is a testing-designated position requiring pre-employment and periodic drug testing. The job may involve adverse weather, heights, scaffolding, hazardous chemicals or waste, radiation work, vibrating and heavy equipment, lasers, power-tool hazards, and moderate noise with occasional loud equipment. Personal protective clothing and a respirator may be required. The position requires overtime or irregular hours and working alone.
