About The Position

Fort McKay First Nation is seeking a motivated and multitasking oriented individual who is flexible and works well in a team environment to fill a full-time permanent Carpenter, Journeyperson position. The Carpenter performs skilled journeyperson level work for in-home repair and new home projects at FMFN in accordance with industry standards and to ensure safety, functionality, and efficiency. Work involves a variety of construction, renovation, maintenance, or repair duties, requiring skill, precision, experience and knowledge of trade practices to produce refined work products.

Requirements

  • Highschool diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Alberta or Interprovincial Journeyperson certification in the trade of Carpenter.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of journeyperson experience in the trade.
  • Experience with carpentry works in residential housing renovation or construction is ideal.
  • Clean Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector is required
  • Valid class 5 Driver’s License & Clean Driver’s Abstract required
  • Must be physically capable of performing required duties. This includes occasional lifting up to 20kg, repetitive walking, bending, squatting, twisting motion and kneeling

Responsibilities

  • Perform carpentry work for in home repair and new home projects.
  • Perform renovation projects under the direction of the Housing Manager.
  • Repair and install new cabinets, doors and windows as needed.
  • Perform drywall repair and prepare for painting.
  • Assist in carpentry quality control, ordering supplies and building material for job site.
  • Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material required.
  • Assess homes for repair or renovation and provide scope and timeline to housing administration team.
  • Read blueprints, drawings and sketches.
  • Build window frames, doors and staircases using raw material items.
  • Install flooring, roofing and/or drywall.
  • Build scaffolding and other construction structures.
  • Ensure compliance with all building codes and regulations.
  • Collaborate with homeowners, team members, and facility maintenance staff to assess task requirements and provide accurate work scopes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Provide excellent customer service, addressing client concerns and inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Adhere to all health and safety rules and regulations, protocols and procedures to minimize risks and hazards in the workplace.
  • Complete documentation and reporting accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Willingness to train and mentor apprentice carpenters, providing guidance and instruction on proper techniques and safety protocols.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
