About The Position

The Carpenter Journey performs carpentry work for industrial construction projects. The role involves interpreting project drawings and specifications, selecting and preparing materials, assembling and installing structures, and constructing concrete forms and chutes. The carpenter also handles materials and equipment, uses hand and power tools safely, and maintains a clean and safe work environment. The position requires working on uneven terrain, climbing ladders and rebar structures, and working at heights and above or below ground while following fall-protection practices.

Requirements

• Typically requires 48 months of industrial construction experience.
• Ability to safely traverse uneven terrain while carrying tools and building materials.
• Ability to climb vertical ladders and work above or below ground as necessary.
• Experience working at heights and functional knowledge of proper fall-protection equipment use.
• Ability to climb rebar walls and cages and work at heights.

Responsibilities

• Read and understand blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
• Select appropriate building materials based on project specifications and dimensions.
• Plan installations to avoid obstructions.
• Prepare layouts using a rule, framing square, and chalk line.
• Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials using a pencil, chalk, and marking gauge.
• Shape materials to prescribed measurements using tools such as skill saws, table saws, and band saws.
• Assemble cut and shaped materials by fastening them with nails or screws.
• Verify the trueness of structures using a plumb bob and carpenter’s level.
• Erect shoring and install plywood decking.
• Construct forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
• Unload materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Assist with lifting, positioning, and securing materials and work pieces during installation.
• Clean tools and equipment.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Perform tasks requiring safe, dexterous use of hand tools.
• Safely operate power tools and equipment.
