Demonstrates mastery performance of all level II duties, in addition to demonstrating the essential functions as outlined below. Performs a variety of skilled carpentry and locksmith tasks and serves as carpentry and/or locksmith crew leader; performs related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of a shop supervisor. Incumbents monitor, instruct, or oversee the work of trades helpers and journey level classifications in the carpentry trades series; serves as working leader of a crew of carpenters engaged in performing a variety of skilled carpentry and locksmith tasks; may provide written or oral information to a superior regarding the performance of subordinates assigned to a crew, shop or team, but is not assigned formal responsibility for performance evaluation. This is the lead journeyman level of the carpenter trades series, overseeing the work of a crew of subordinate trades personnel and performing highly skilled carpentry and locksmith tasks. Many maintenance tasks are performed at schools, centers, and offices while others are performed in a shop or fixed site. Work is usually carried out within the framework of well defined procedures, but some independent judgement is exercised to complete assigned tasks. Work is checked through personal inspection by a superior or approval of an administrator at the work site. Some positions assigned to this classification may be required to work an evening shift on a regular or rotating basis.
