About The Position

The Carpenter, Erector/Siding is based at the Mt. Airy, NC manufacturing plant, with operations in the U.S., and has overall responsibility for constructing, assembling, and ensuring the quality of wooden structures through precise measurement, cutting, and assembly techniques, while adhering to safety and production standards and meeting customer specifications. This position reports directly to the Manager, Plant (or Supervisor, Plant) and does not have direct reports.

Requirements

  • Common knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to work well as a team.
  • Ability to paint.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, up to 50 pounds.
  • Physical stamina to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in awkward and cramped positions.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to repeat the same or similar movements.
  • Good vision, including depth perception.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, such as extreme heat or cold, in a manufacturing plant environment.
  • Ability to hear and talk.
  • Ability to keep up with production’s fast pace.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.

Responsibilities

  • Measures and cuts siding and covering materials to fit walls and corners, or changes in building materials and structure.
  • Fastens siding and weatherboards, using nails, screws, or other fasteners.
  • Ensures that all siding and weatherboards are straight and secure.
  • Seals areas with plastic sheeting and tape to ensure dust and dirt containment and protect adjacent surfaces during the installation of siding and windows.
  • Applies weather-stripping and sealant around the edges of the buildings to ensure insulation, protection of structures from weather damage, and light prevention.
  • Inspects surfaces and structures for safety or repairs and quality, and completes any necessary corrective actions.
  • Understands and complies with applicable building codes, safety regulations, and guidelines.
  • Communicates with supervisors, peers, or inspectors using spoken or written words to convey information effectively and ensure project completion.
  • Adheres to safety protocols and maintains a clean workspace.
  • Assists in other duties within the carpentry manufacturing plant, including the following: Doors, Electrical, Flooring, Framing, Painting/Trim, Press/Rafting, Ramps/Accessories, Roofing, Small Structures, Trusses, Vinyl.
