Requirements

  • Basic mathematics skills
  • Basic knowledge of welding symbols and blueprint reading skills
  • Ability to work with complicated welding tools
  • Proficient in monitoring the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating or warping of parts.
  • Ability to examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Able to lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
  • Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.
  • Preheat work pieces prior to welding or bending, using torches or heating furnaces.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with welding dies or instruments/ equipment utilized within a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Welding certification preferred ( American Welding Society)
  • Forklift experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Cutting and joining metal parts for fabricating or repairing manufacturing equipment, tools, and various other articles
  • Designing and fabricating the equipment and parts for meeting the special or unusual needs, using the manufacturer specifications, calculator, measuring devices, drawings, etc.
  • Installing or removing any special equipment like grinders, power and hand tools, etc.
  • Designing and creating holding jigs that aid in fabrication of the parts in various numbers
  • Maintaining a record of all the work completed
  • Maintaining routine inventory of supplies used for operating the welding unit via inspection of stocks and ordering fresh stock as and when required.
