Caregivers provide nonmedical service and assistance to a client in their home and community, who, because of advanced age or physical or mental disability, cannot perform these services. These services enable the client to remain in his/her residence. Therefore, the caregiver must feel comfortable caring for a client in a private home or setting. The Caregivers main objective is client satisfaction and safety for both oneself and for the client. The Caregiver must have sensitivity for the needs of others, a professional manner, and a positive attitude. Aides are responsible for ensuring that service is delivered in a caring and respectful manner, in accordance with relevant Agency polices, industry standards, and state regulations. Aides needs to report on time to scheduled shift unless specific circumstances come up.

  • Must follow the written care plan and work all hours as established by Supervisor.
  • Must carry out duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Must submit written documentation to the office, as required.
  • Must attend orientation, in-service training sessions, and staff meetings.
  • Must develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Must communicate regularly with Supervisor and co-workers.
  • Must observe, receive, and obtain information from relevant sources.
  • Must report any incidents or accidents immediately to Supervisor.
  • Must consistently follow Code of Conduct and policies as set for in the Employee Handbook.
  • Must maintain client’s protected health information confidential and observes all client’s rights.
  • Must report, detect, and prevent abuse and neglect.

Responsibilities

  • The Caregiver provides service to a client based on and limited to a client’s care plan developed by the RN, the client, and/or the client’s family.
  • Caregiver services are tasks that are necessitated by a client’s disability or chronic condition that limits the client’s ability to perform functional activities or daily living (ADL’s) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL’s).
  • Caregivers will provide excellent client care including, but not limited to, assistance with the following: Ambulation, Personal Hygiene, Feeding, Positioning, Housekeeping, Vital Signs and Blood Pressure, Range of Motion, Dressing, Exercise, Toileting and Incontinence Care, Meal Planning and Preparation, Shopping and Errands, Bathing, Grooming, Transferring, Medication Reminders, Laundry, Companionship.
  • Ensure client’s safety and security by supervising the home environment.
  • Teach/Perform Meal Planning and Preparation and serving the client.
  • Routine Housekeeping activities such as making/changing bedding, dusting, vacuuming, washing floors, cleaning kitchen and bathroom, and laundry. Household tasks should not exceed 20% of time worked per shift unless the client has a Housekeeping Authorization.
  • Provide Companionship including social interactions, conversations, emotional reassurance, and encouragement of activities that simulate the mind.
  • Provide respite care for families in accordance with care plans.
  • Escort clients to medical facilities, errands, shopping, and outings as specified in the care plan.
  • Assist clients with communication by writing or typing correspondence for them or researching information for them.
  • Notifies agency when unable to work scheduled assignments – 24 hour notification required.
  • Monitor supplies and resources.
