Caregivers provide direct care to residents, recognize individual needs, encourage independence, and treat each senior with respect and dignity. They assist with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and other personal care needs, and help residents with light housekeeping such as vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, and doing dishes. Caregivers engage residents in meaningful conversations and provide attentive care. Depending on state regulations, completion of training or certification may be required. Brookdale notes that caregivers may have opportunities to advance into positions such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA/STNA) and Medication Technician (QMAP).
