A rewarding career opportunity providing supports to groups of adults who have intellectual/developmental disabilities. Teaching, mentoring, caregiving, medical monitoring, and hygiene assistance are a few of the roles. These supports are provided in group home or group day program settings. Supports could include teaching people how to: Use community resources, understand their rights, and be safety aware. Participate in activities, exercise, use etiquette, improve coping skills & self esteem. Maintain living space, personal hygiene and balance in their home life & weekly schedules. Learn assembly and production work skills, manage break times, and build co-worker relationships. Plan & prepare meals, grocery shop, operate household appliances, and budget. Prepare for and participate in leisure activities – Special Olympics, sports, dances, gatherings, etc. Manage their sensory needs and maintain their own structured environment. Positions require assisting individuals with hygiene/personal care. A comprehensive two-week, weekday, daytime orientation is provided and required (this is excellent paid training with certifications).
