About The Position

Responsible for providing placement and follow-up services for graduates and former enrollees in compliance with government and management directives. This role involves being the primary point of contact for graduates, initiating transitional support referrals, contacting employers to arrange interviews, and maintaining regular contact with graduates during the placement and follow-up period. The specialist will document services in an automated case management system, verify and report placements, and maintain communication with career development specialists and workforce development centers. The position also requires producing and distributing reports, participating in student employability programs, enforcing the Job Corps' Zero Tolerance Policy, promoting Career Success Standards, and maintaining accountability for students and property. Additionally, the role involves safely transporting students to career-related activities and facilitating daily Career Transition Readiness Workshops covering resume development, job searching, interview preparation, and workplace professionalism. The specialist will also coach students on career and independent-living preparation, including goal setting, financial literacy, and overcoming barriers to employment, while collaborating with various center departments to support student transitions.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with advanced Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Computer Literacy with basic computer functions, email, internet, and basic programs such as Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong knowledge of the subject area of instruction and academic teaching practices.
  • High level of communication, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.
  • High level of ability to motivate, inspire, and educate students effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer proficiency are also required.
  • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required.

Responsibilities

  • Be the principal point of contact for graduates and former enrollees during the transition, placement, and follow-up as appropriate.
  • Initiate transitional support referrals to off-center placement specialists and other community agencies.
  • Contact employers, representatives, and on-stop centers to arrange for interviews and other activities to promote initial placement.
  • Make regular contact with graduates and former enrollees during the placement and follow-up period; provide services as needed; document in the automated case management system.
  • Verify, document, and report placements using the automated system and ETA-678.
  • Maintain regular contact with career development specialists at the center.
  • Work closely with OA/CTS colleagues to gather information and maintain open communication with workforce development centers throughout the state (in which the center is operating).
  • Produce and distribute placement and follow-up reports.
  • Participate in student employability programs and activities.
  • Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps' Zero Tolerance Policy.
  • Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
  • Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Safely transport students in authorized center vehicles to and from job interviews, job fairs, career fairs, hiring events, employer visits, and other approved career-related activities in accordance with Job Corps and center transportation policies.
  • Facilitate and actively engage students in a daily Career Transition Readiness Workshop, providing hands-on guidance in resume development job searching, applications, interview preparation, workplace professionalism, career planning, and employer expectations.
  • Coach students through career and independent-living preparation, including goal setting, financial literacy, transportation and housing planning, time management, professional communication, and identifying and overcoming barriers that could impact successful employment and transition.
  • Monitor student participation, progress, and career readiness while collaborating with CTT, Academics, WBL, Career Services, and other center departments to support each student's successful transition into employment, advanced training, military service, or postsecondary education.
  • Other duties as assigned.
