About The Position

The Career Technical Education (CTE) Paraprofessional at San Diego Workforce Innovation High School supports educators in a specialized program, assisting students in building foundational skills for success in nursing and healthcare professions. This position is funded through the Career Technical Education Incentive Grant (CTEIG) and is ideal for individuals passionate about working with students and supporting their growth and development. The role involves assisting with instruction, providing tutoring, managing data entry, facilitating program implementation, and performing clerical tasks. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, and completion of at least two years of College (48 units), or Associate degree (or higher) from an accredited state college, or Pass a local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction issued by an approved Local education agency.
  • Experience working with students
  • Experience working with low economic and at-risk populations
  • Experience in the education of individuals with exceptional needs, student who are deaf or hard of hearing, or in the related Career Technical Education or Literacy content area
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Fluent in sign language, certified by the national Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or equivalent, if providing Cued Speech interpretation, be certified by any certifying body recognized by the National Cued Speech Association (NCSA) (for Sign Language Interpreter Qualifications)
  • Fluent in the specified language requirement or specific education program, reading, writing, and speaking and ability to translate communications between students and teachers (for Language Interpreter Qualifications)
  • Ability to travel in performance of job duties is required

Responsibilities

  • Assist educators in their instructional duties and other general responsibilities such as organizing and providing tutorial support.
  • Provide additional student support including accommodations and online assessments.
  • Assist in related data entry for students enrolling in the program or school.
  • Facilitate program implementation and support maintenance efforts such as student transportation, guest speakers, career fairs, field trips, etc.
  • Alert the educator to student behavior issues or other program challenges.
  • Assist in monitoring and proctoring student assignment and tests.
  • Perform clerical tasks for teachers as needed, to include coordination, scheduling of and participation in meetings when requested.
  • Assist educators in contacting parents or adult students and assists in retrieving required forms.
  • Participate in Student Study Team or other meetings relating to student success.
  • Aid the educator in rendering additional attention or data collection for particular students.
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn and build expertise in relevant content areas.
  • Follow directions for activities involved in the development and implementation of student learning plans.
  • Translate communications between students and teachers.
  • For Sign Language Interpreters: Assist students in the use of sign language or other non-verbal forms of communication.
  • For Sign Language Interpreters: Assist with the instruction deaf and hard of hearing students, individually or in small groups.
  • Adhere to attendance policies.
  • Administrative duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned or changed from time to time.

Benefits

  • Compensation: $20.60/hour - $30.90/hour (Depending on Education)
